Precision Weighing Balances is an authorized dealer of A&D scales and balances. You will not find any A&D balances for less than Precision Weighing Balances. If you see the same product being sold for less, we doubt the website is an authorized A&D dealer, which means the manufacturer might not warranty the product.
Many people call us looking for the absolute best value Precision Weighing Balances can offer in a moisture balance for simply moisture determination applications like sludge wastewater applications and the answer again and again is the A&D ML-50. When price is the #1 factor and you want a quality moisture determination instrument to 1% moisture content determination then you should review the ML50 moisture balance.
A major issue with ALL A&D moisture balances is the disposable moisture pans are not the standard 4" diameter like all the competitor models such as Sartorius, Mettler, Ohaus and Adam Equipment. We offer 500 disposable 4" diameter pans for under $155. Since the AND Weighing moisture pan is a different size you'll be required to purchase only their AX-30 Sample Pans (100 ea) for $52.00. So, 500 A&D moisture pans will cost you $260 ($52 x 5) while Precision Weighing Balances can offer you 500 disposable moisture pans for most Sartorius, Mettler Toledo, Ohaus and Adam Equipment moisture balances for under $155. So although A&D offers a low initial price for their moisture balance the cost of operation could be much, much more expensive purchasing those expensive disposable moisture pans. We never recommend reusing any moisture pan. Every moisture analysis test should be performed on a new disposable moisture pan for accurate moisture content results.
We understand purchasing a moisture analyzer is a major capital expense and if you have any questions give us a call and one of our weighing experts can discuss your moisture determination application and get you the most affordable balance for your weighing needs. Precision Weighing Balances has been selling moisture balances online since 1995 and we know the product we sell. Sadly, most of the catalog companies and vendors online have never even turned on a moisture balance yet the manufacturers allow them to attempt to sell you moisture balance. Give us a call M-F 9-5 EST and tell us your application and we'll sell you the right moisture analyzer.

Sodium Tartrate Dihydrate is included for verifying the performance any of the A&D moisture
analyzers. Sodium Tartrate Dihydrate is a chemical used in the industry
as a standard since it contains 15.66% of a chemically uniform moisture.
However, depending on the state of the preservation of the material the
moisture of 0.09% or less adheres to the surface of it.
Checking the performance of the moisture
balance is simple. Preheat the unit for about eight minutes at 160°C,
then put about 5 grams of Sodium Tartrate Dihydrate in the moisture balance.
The moisture content rate of 15.50 - 16.00% is obtained in a typical measurement.

A&D Moisture Analyzers come with data acquisition software for exporting
data to a computer via the RS-232 interface. The MF-50 comes standard
with the WinCT balance communication software for
exporting weighing result to a MS Word or Excel.
The MS-70 & MX-50 comes with Win CT Moisture (optional for the MF-50). Win CT Moisture exclusive Optimum Temperature Search (OTS) program is designed to display
a graph of the moisture content rate change while measuring and makes it
easier to set an appropriate analyzing mode setting with a connected PC.
Users no longer have to go through a tedious trial and error process to
determine optimum temperature and time for quick accurate analysis.
Typically it takes days of trial and error to find optimal sample parameters.
In just one 30-minute sample run, OTS automatically recommends the ideal
time and temperature for a sample type. Because the OTS program helps
the user distinguish between desired drying of moisture vs. the undesirable
burning of the sample, OTS ensures quick accurate readings every time.
In addition to OTS, WinCT-Moisture provides bidirectional data collection,
graph time vs. moisture % and overlays multiple test graphs in different
colors to visually compare results. Data can be exported to Excel™
or sent as an email attachment.
The MX-50 can also be purchased with an optional
Certified Temperature Calibrator (ONLY available
for the MX-50 Moisture Balance). Calibration results can be
output in the format that conforms to GLP, GMP, ISOC.
All A&D moisture analyzers measure moisture thermogravimetrically.
Thermogravimetric moisture analysis is based on the principles of vaporization
of water during the during process. The moisture balances monitors
the weight loss of a sample as the material is heated. The sample
weight prior to heating and after reaching a steady-state mass after drying
determines the moisture content. The halogen bulb produces the heating
of the sample by infrared radiation. The thermogravimetric method
offers advantages over moisture determination using a chemical method such
as Karl Fisher Titration. Thermogravimetric moisture analysis is simple
to perform and adaptable to many conditions verses Karl Fisher Titration
can be subjective, and require the handling and disposal of solvents and
potentially hazardous materials.

information regarding the moisture balance. It outlines the operation,
additional features, keypad functions and standard accessories that
come with the awesome moisture balance. Reviewing the manual will
answer all your questions and help you in your final selection.
Warning - Moisture balancesshould not be used on any volatile organic sample with flash
points. Even a MSDS rating of 1. Samples with low flask
points like Acetaldehyde -38°C or MEK -4°C should not be used
with the A&D MX50 Moisture Balance and maybe you should look at
Karl Fisher as an alternative.
Although you might presently perform analysis with an oven on these
samples the ovens typically have ventilation and a much larger cavity
than the typical moisture balance that operates on the principles of
TGA. In addition, with most moisture balances there is no ventilation
so all the fumes remain inside the hood of the moisture balance. We strongly recommend you consult with a safety
specialist always prior to using any moisture balances for your safety.

content refers to a measurement of moisture content as compared to dry
Typically moisture content = (wet weight - dry weight)/wet wgt * 100%
ATRO wet weight = (wet wgt-dry wgt)/dry weight * 100%
So for a
100 gram sample drying to 75 grams.
Wet Moisture content is 25/100=25%
However ATRO moisture content is 25/75= 33.3%
for Dry content vs. ATRO dry content.
Dry content = dry wgt/wet wgt
ATRO dry content = wet wgt/ dry wgt

Four measurement complete conditions are preprogrammed and are adaptable
to various measuring methods. In addition, in each measurement

to your desired selection and recalled
saving you time. These settings as a set can be
memorized in the MS-70 for 100 sets, MX-50
for 20 sets and the MF-50 for 10 sets. Suitable
sets of the conditions can be individually called according to the
sample. Whether your determining moisture% for primary or secondary sludge
in a wastewater environment, or testing lab to determine dry content
% for the food industry for dry milk or grain, it's simply to select
and run the test once you program and store the test setup parameters.
The MS-70 is targeted as an alternative to the Karl Fisher method
for PET plastic pellet measurements. With PET plastic and
other materials, the MS-70 can measure a drop of moisture content
of less than 1%. Specialist knowledge is not necessary to
operate the MS-70, and since measurement occurs quickly no harmful
waste is produced.

Have you seen the new Sartorius MA37 moisture analyzer? The MA37 offers a touchscreen display that is more intuitive for some people than the MX50. Watch the video above and learn how the MA37 can be configured, see the display and how to access the parameter configuration. You'll see all the steps to run a moisture test on the MA37.
Watch the video above and learn how the Sartorius MA160 moisture analyzer can be configured, see the display and how to access the parameter configuration. You'll see all the steps to run a moisture test on the MA160. The Sartorius MA160 moisture analyzer has a "Software Assistant Function" to start the development of your our test method parameters. See step by step how to test ketchup
Watch this video above as we highlight in this video the differences between the MA37 and MA160 since briefly looking at the units they seem the same but there are major differences.
So both the MA37 and MA160 deliver readability to 1 milligram. The average repeatability is ± 0.2% when you are using an initial sample weighing from 1-5 grams and when using a initial sample greater than 5 grams the repeatability is 0.05%. We always recommend a sample at least 5 grams since anything smaller is typically difficult to attain a good representative sample. Neither unit is recommended for plastic resin applications.
So what are the differences??
Although the infrared heating element looks similar the MA37 maximum output is 480W while the MA160 is 600W. More watts shortens time to attain temperature setting. The heating elements differ from a different alloy mix for the metal tubular heating element and Sartorius calls the MA160 element AURI.
MA37 has only the ability to save one (1) method while the MA160 can save up to 100 methods.
MA160 comes with "Sample Tongs" while it is an accessory for the MA37.
MA160 includes 3 ReproEasy Pads while no pads are included with the MA37. The ReproEasy Pads are used to verify the moisture analyzer is functioning within manufacturer specifications. The pad is a onetime use consumable item and additional pads are sold in packages of 10 pads. We recommend you download the user manual and reference the section "MA Performance Test" to learn more about this test feature available on both the MA37 and MA160. This is a great alternative to testing your moisture analyzer against sodium tartrate dihyrate. Using sodium tartrate dihyrate requires you to operate at 160C to release the chemically bonded two water molecules from Sodium Tartrate. The ReproEasy Pad you can run a performance test at 70C, 100C or 130C whichever temperature is closer to your actual sample you test normally.
The MA160 has a SD memory card slot verses the MA37 just has a dummy slot. You can import/export methods to the SD card. This is a nice feature for companies that implement "build alike" or create SOP implemented globally throughout their plants. One plant can develop the method for each different sample, download those methods to the SD card and the e-mail the file to other plants where they can copy the file to the SD card and then import them into the MA160 located in other locations.
In the "Calibration Report" menu you can access the most recent calibration reports for the MA Performance Tests and external calibration adjustments up to 99 reports are saved per day. Calibration reports older than 30 days are automatically deleted. Again this information can be downloaded to the SD Card and the file e-mailed to the quality control or regulatory officer to meet compliance reporting requirements.
Another benefit purchasing the MA160 because it has the SD card is the "Results" menu. The analysis results can be viewed, exported or deleted. If you export the data to the SD card it is saved as an XML file and can be viewed with a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. This is a great feature especially for paperless operations or if you need to print results and don't have a Sartorius YDP30 or YDP40 printer. All you need to do is save results to the SD card, open the file on your PC within a web browser and use the printer connected to your computer.
I would say the greatest feature the MA160 has that isn't available on the MA37 is "Method Assistant". Method Assistant helps you develop and refine methods in 3 easy steps. Its quick and ensures that all relevant parameters have been included for your moisture determination test. The Assistant prompts you to configure all relevant parameters, provides a practical range and prevents you entering implausible data. If you are running lots of different samples and not sure on the optimum temperature, whether you should use filter pad(s) The intuitive wizard asks you whether your sample consistency is a solid, fluid or paste. Method Assistant even asks if the sample is organic, inorganic or unknown.
Finally there is a 'Protective Mode" menu that is only available on the MA160. This allows you to password protect the MA160 moisture analyzer to ensure only authorized persons can make changes to the system settings. This video is a must see.
