You can buy an Ohaus Explorer EP214 analytical balance 3 ways - the standard Explorer EP214 which has no internal calibration and is NOT Legal for Trade; the EP214N which IS Legal for Trade with no internal calibration (check the box in the option section for Legal for Trade. The prefix "N" designate Legal for Trade); the EP214CN which is the EP214 with motorized internal calibration and IS Legal for Trade (check the box in the option section for Internal Calibration). "CN" designate Internal Calibration & Legal for Trade.
Ohaus Explorer EP214 (210g x 0.1mg) features an integrated draft shield enclosure. The enclosure is required due to the extreme sensitivity. Merely waving your hand slowly over the weighing platform with result in air turbulence getting under the weighing pans and causes erratic readings.
In some applications when the balance is placed in a glove box or you are weighing objects larger than the door opening of the draftshield you can run into problems. An example might be weighing an 8-inch silicon wafer to determine a coating applied - you just can't get the wafer in the fixed draft shield. In this situation an analytical balance with the glass draftshield removed would be operated in a larger enclosure, again to minimize air turbulence.
Additional the Scientech ZSA features an all glass draftshield design for optimal illumination while the Ohaus Explorer has 3 sides of glass.
One design issue you should be aware of with the Explorer and Voyager Series outfitted with internal calibration when the balance is used in the non-NTEP mode is the inability to disable the use of internal calibration. The Ohaus line is the only balance we know of that does not allow you to disable the internal calibration. Where this becomes an issue is most calibration A2LA Certification Calibration companies will NOT calibrate a balance unless the internal calibration can be disengaged. If your balance is going to require A2LA Certification the Sartorius CPA224S balance may be a better choice.
Before purchasing any analytical balance, be sure you review the Sartorius GD503. Nothing compares in price, quality, and value. We keep the GD503 (100g x 0.1mg) in stock and ready for immediate delivery. Only GD503 analytical balance offers legal for trade, RS232 interface, 3 year limited manufacturer's warranty, and even includes 100 gram external calibration weight. In addition to these great features, we even have an exclusive offer allowing you to purchase a Sartorius data printer or WinWedge Software at a special discount price when you buy a Sartorius GD503 analytical balance.
We understand purchasing an analytical balance is a major capital expense and if you have any questions give us a call and one of our weighing experts can discuss your weighing application and get you the most affordable balance for your weighing needs.

Pro Analytical Models
Explorer Pro Series features 4 analytical models with
capacities up to 210g and 0.1mg readability for maximum accuracy.
The new draftshield design and contoured fit provide optimum draft protection
from wind currents for superior balance stability and reproducibility
in challenging environments such as high traffic areas. Explorer
Pro is perfect for university research, teaching laboratories and general
spirit bubble indicator is located on the front of the balance so you
can always verify your lab balance is level. Balances must
always be level to correctly transfer the force applied to the weighing
balance parallel to the weigh cell. If the balance is off-centered (not
level) this generates a counterforce to the suspension guides of the
weigh cell resulting in inaccurate or distorted weighing results.
allows you to place a reference load on the pan, and check other samples
as a percent of the reference load. Each new sample will be
a "percentage" of the original reference, the display shows
the variance in – or + percent of the reference.
is an application mode commonly used when you need to identify the
individual weights of the container, the material and both together.
The container weight is the Tare weight, the material is called the
Net weight and the container and material together are called the
Gross weight. The Net weight is displayed on the readout.

/ Animal Weighing:
Dynamic weighing allows the user to weigh unstable matter that may
be moving. This mode can be set to manual, semi-automatic, or automatic;
the displayed data includes filtered weight and unfiltered weight.
Displayed data also includes filter level, capacity bar graph and
operation mode (manual, semi or auto).
Enhanced parts counting features include auto sample optimization,
user definable sample size and manual entry using scroll keys.
The "Parts Counting Check" feature allows for quickly checking
a sample of pieces against a preset criteria, with results displayed
as the number of pieces. The "Parts Counting Fill"
feature allows for quickly checking a sample of pieces against an
established criteria, with results displayed as a percentage of the
Filling permits the user to preset a target reference weight, then
add material to the balance to meet the target weight. The display
shows the preset target weight and the percentage of the target by
monitoring the differential data, the fill bar is split in two sections
for fast filling up to 90%, then slower accurate fill to reach target
is used when items need to be checked against a preset target, after
the target weight is set, and over/under parameters are established.
Checkweighing is measured as a factor of over the target, under the
target, or accept. The display automatically shows the difference
in percent and weight.
