Ohaus Voyager VP214DCN is a dual range analytical balance. In the fine
range when weighing samples from 0-100g in capacity you'll have 0.1mg readability.
Once the cumulative weight on the weighing pan exceeds 100 gram the readability
drops by a factor of ten or 1 milligram readability for samples 100g-210g.
Ohaus Voyager lab balances calculates the density for you - no calculator or
scratch paper needed. The embedded software allows the Ohaus Voyager balance
to store in memory the initial weight in air, then the weight of the object
submerged in the liquid (typically distilled water - 1.00 g/ml, but could be
glycerin - 1.26 g/ml, 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol 0.81 g/ml). If you
don't understand specific gravity review this example of density
Performing density determination inside the draftshield requires the purchase
of Ohaus' optional density determination kit. You could also use the weigh
below hook and suspend the sample beneath the balance, but this is not recommended
on 0.1mg analytical balances since air turbulence typically interferes with
your weighing results.
The Voyager VP214DCN is NTEP
Approved (a.k.a. Legal
for Trade) making this a popular balance with pharmacist for pharmacy compounding.
The dual range feature can be handy weighing powders and small dosages to 0.1mg
while weighing solutions/liquids from 100g-210g to 1 milligram.
Ohaus VP214DCN is a "Legal for Trade" precision balance and we highly
recommend you click the Certificate of Conformance hyperlink below in the balance
specification table to fully understand the Ohaus VP214DCN limitations.
The Ohaus VP214DCN NTEP / Legal for Trade mode specifications are 210g x 1mg.
One design issue you should be aware of with the Voyager Series when
the balance is used in the non-NTEP mode is the inability to disable the use
of internal calibration. The Ohaus line is the only balance we know of
that does not allow you to disable the internal calibration. Where this
becomes an issue is most calibration A2LA Certification Calibration companies
will NOT calibrate a balance unless the internal calibration can be disengaged.
If your balance is going to require A2LA Certification the Sartorius
CPA224S Analytical may be a better choice.
Voyager Pro is available in either four Analytical or 12 precision models and
you can see them all here.
If your weighing application involves pharmaceutical manufacturing and research or any weighing environment with strict regulatory procedures be sure to review the Sartorius Secura224-1S. Secura is our newest analytical lab balance loaded with advanced pharma compliance features.
We understand purchasing an analytical balance is a major capital expense and if you have any questions give us a call and one of our weighing experts can discuss your weighing application and get you the most affordable balance for your weighing needs.

spirit bubble indicator is located on the front of the balance so you can
always verify your lab balance is level. Balances must always be
level to correctly transfer the force applied to the weighing balance
parallel to the weigh cell. If the balance is off-centered (not level) this
generates a counterforce to the suspension guides of the weigh cell resulting
in inaccurate or distorted weighing results.
even the most complex laboratory measurements. Whether it’s
determining the difference between initial and residual weights or calculating
the density of solids and liquids, Voyager Pro eliminates the need for time
consuming manual calculations and data logging.

For superior weighing performance, Voyager Pro’s AutoCal™ feature
automatically calibrates the balance when it senses a temperature change
sufficient enough to affect weighing accuracy. For maximum accuracy,
the Voyager Pro Series features 4 analytical models with capacities up to
210g with a 0.1mg readability. The draftshield design provides optimum
draft protection from wind currents for superior balance stability and reproducibility
even in challenging environments.
Quality Control (SQC)
SQC feature is extremely useful during various types of process filling
operations when it is desired to monitor and control the process to eliminate
under and over filling. Provisions are made in the balance to accommodate
the weight of various packaging methods. During operation, parameters
of the packaged product are set into the balance such as packaging weight,
acceptable weight limits and non-acceptable weight limits of the product.
These weight limits are identified as +Tl, +T2, NOMINAL and -TI, -T2.
As samples are weighed and stored in the balance, a trend analysis is developed
and displayed on the balance. Up to 25 samples in a batch with up
to ten batches are visible on a trend screen for quality control purposes.
Each batch of samples is shown on the display which indicates the maximum/minimum
standard deviation and mean values for each batch. An on going examination
of the relative deviation of the samples along with other statistical data
can be viewed and is stored. By observing the results of the VIEW
TRACE screen, you can effectively monitor the filling process operation.
are used when it is desired to compare a number of samples and examine the
relative deviation of the samples along with other statistical data.
A minimum of three samples are required in this program. Statistics
contains menu options which include: number of samples, maximum, minimum,
difference, sum, mean, standard deviation, relative deviation, auto sample,
and auto print. Weighing, Animal Weighing, Check Weighing and Filling
application modes can also be linked to the Statistics mode to provide statistical
weighing stores tare and weight values so samples can be dried or processed
and the difference in weight be calculated. Up to 80 samples can be
stored. The balance has the capability to work with one or two different
containers or no container at all.
Pipette calibration checks the accuracy and precision values of pipettes
by weight analysis. An analytical balance is recommended for maximum
accuracy. The balance is capable of recording data from 3 to 30 samples
of each pipette tested. The density table for water is included and
if liquid is used for pipette calibration, Voyager Pro will accept the alternate
liquid’s density in g/cc at current room temperature. Since
all calculations are made within the balance, it is also required that you
know the atmospheric pressure which has to be entered.

accessory density determination kit is designed to be used with Ohaus Voyager
Pro balances. A built-in reference density table for water at temperatures
between 10°C and 30°C is included in the balance software.
When making density measurements, the material should weigh at least 10.0
mg on an analytical balance and 100 mg on a precision balance.
