Since the beginning Ohaus has been dedicated to doing one thing and one thing only: creating incredibly accurate, exceedingly innovative, high precision lab balances. The Ohaus Discovery DV215CD is their pinnacle achievement to many weighing experts like ourselves at Precision Weighing Balances. Ohaus DV215CD professional semi micro analytical balance features a 0.01mg dual range weighing which automatically selects ultra fine 0.01 mg resolution in the 0 - 81g range. When you weigh from 81g - 210 grams the readability drops to 0.1mg. The DV215CD dual-range semi-micro balance weighs to five decimal places in grams for the lower range and four decimal places for the upper range.
Ohaus Discovery analytical balances offer high performance semi-micro balances great for professionals in university research, pharmaceutical research and drug discovery, as well as general lab applications. Application modes for Ohaus analyticals include: density determination, statistics, pipette calibration, percent weighing, parts counting, check weighing, animal / dynamic weighing, totalization, and finding high point weighing results from a batch. Ohaus analytical balances are optimized with smarText software which making Ohaus Discovery digital balances reliable and easy-to-use plus it is and backed with a two year limited manufacturer warranty.
Discovery Scientific Research Balances are equipped with advanced AutoCal, an automatic internal calibration system using 2 internal weights performing linear calibration to ensure accurate weighing even after temperature changes capable of affecting precision weighing results.
Ohaus analytical balances contain features making it superior over competitive scales in its class. Discovery high precision balances can compensate for vibrations and disturbances you may have in harsh environments. Weigh below hook allow density determination or calculations involving specific gravity of weighing samples. Up-Front level indicators on the Ohaus Discovery semi microbalance allow you to easily determine if the analytical balance is level, eliminating the need to look behind the analyzing balance during the leveling process.

Before you make your final decision on your next semi microbalance be sure to see the Sartorius Quintix125D-1S or Secura225D-1S. Sartorius started over 145 years ago in 1870 when Sartorius went into business by setting up his precision mechanical workshop and later pioneering and inventing the short-beam analytical balance that revolutionized work in research laboratories around the world.
The Ohaus DV215CD has been discontinued and Ohaus ended production in 2015. Information on this web page is for reference only for our past customer's that purchased this balance and want to review the specification. We recommend for an alternative the Sartorius Secura225D-1S, Secura 125-1S, Sartorius Quintix125D-1S or Sartorius Quintix65-1S.

Ohaus Discovery Analytical balances offer semi micro weighing precision, and modern ergonomic design. Ohaus´ combination of weighing performance, ease of use, and advanced applications make the Discovery line ideal for a broad range of uses from basic weighing, to more advanced applications such as parts counting, pipette calibration, density determination, statistical analysis, percent weighing and dynamic weighing.
Ohaus Semi-Micro Balance's Application Modes:
Statistics: Statistics are used when it is desired to compare a number of samples
and examine the relative deviation of the samples along with other
statistical data. A minimum of three samples are required in this
program. Statistics contains menu options which include: number of
samples, maximum, minimum, difference, sum, mean, standard
deviation, relative deviation, auto sample, and auto print.
In addition to standard weighing, statistical data can be provided for
Animal/Dynamic Weighing and Checkweighing measurements.
Density: Discovery provides users with four methods of density determination
to choose from depending on their need.
They are:
1. User can determine density for solids more dense than water
2. User can determine density for solids less dense than water
3. User can determine density for liquid density
(sinker needed – not included)
4. User can determine density for Porous material
(impregnated with oil).
After entering a couple of parameters into the balance, the built in
density table, and mass measurement of the balance take over to
provide rapid and accurate density results, with no manual
calculations needed.
Pipette Calibration: Pipette calibration checks the accuracy and precision values of pipettes by weight analysis. The Discovery DV215CD 0.01mg semi micro
balance is recommended for maximum accuracy. To calibrate a
pipette, the user will select the type of liquid to be used in the
pipette (normally water), barometric pressure, nominal value, and unit
of measure of the pipette. The balance will do the rest. The Discovery
will accept an alternate liquid’s density in g/cc at current room
temperature as well.
Percent Weighing: This mode allows the user to display the weight of a sample as a percentage of a reference weight useful in sieving applications,
reagent weighing, moisture determination, and other types of
ingredient mixing.
Parts Counting: Parts counting mode is useful when counting pills, or parts
that have a consistent, but low nominal mass. This mode
allows the user to count based on a calculated piece weight.
The optimization feature improves counting accuracy by
automatically re-calculating the piece weight as parts are added.
Check Weighing: This mode allows the user to check the weight of a sample
against preset target parameters such as underweight and
overweight.
Animal/Dynamic Weighing: Dynamic weighing can be used when either a rough environment
is encountered such as on a ship, or when in a location that may not have ideal conditions. In addition, this mode allows the
user to weigh moving objects such as animals, insects or other
moving specimens. Dynamic weighing averages out weight
readings over a period of time and displays the results until
cleared.
Totalization: This mode allows the user to sum a series of sample weights
that can be greater than the capacity of the balance.
Totalization is helpful when adding the masses of several
samples together without the need for a calculator.
High Point:High Point can be used when analyzing batches or lots, or for
quality checking of random samples. When in High Point mode,
the balance will save only the highest weight value from a series
of weighings.
The Sartorius Secura and Quintix semi microbalances are amazing. In the YouTube video above you will see the Sartorius Secura225D-1S semi microbalance [0-120g x 0.01mg] [120-220g x 0.1mg]. We highlight the intuitive operation using the SmartTouch user interface that is so easy to use you'll probably never need to reference the user manual. We also demonstrate the ergonomic draftshield and show how easy it is to dismantle the balance for easy cleaning.
Also you'll get a close up view of the new "collection container".
The collection container is designed to keep the spill from entering the lab balance that could cause potential damage to the balance. Sartorius' revolutionary "collection container" features a rimmed design to keep the spill from entering if you happen to spill any liquid or granular samples while weighing.
If the Secura225D-1S is more balance than you need for your weighing application then be sure to see the Secura 125-1S, Sartorius Quintix125D-1S or Sartorius Quintix65-1S. Sartorius is our #1 selling laboratory weighing balances since they are the leaders in building high quality weighing instruments.
