There is now an affordable alternative to the Ohaus Scout SP202, SP402 or SP602 and it is the EPB-602. Science teachers will be able to buy more digital scales allowing students to work in small groups and this allows students to learn interactively. Our EPB-602 has 600 grams weighing capacity and the display resolution increments in 0.01 gram divisions. Yes that is 1/100th of a gram. Simply press the "UNIT" keypad and you have the choice of 13 different weigh modes - grams, ounces, pounds, and many more weigh units. A large 4.7" x 5.3" weighing platform provides a large surface area to weigh samples. The bright backlit display makes viewing easy in even poorly lighting environments. You have the flexibility to configure the backlit to always be ON, always OFF, or when a weight is applied to the weighing platform the backlit automatically turns ON. The EPB-602 comes with an all glass draftshield that is permanently fixed and can not be removed. The shield prevent air currents from interfering with the balance's weighing platform resulting in fluctuating readings due to airflow applying forces to the weighing platform resulting in inaccurate readings. The windshield protects the scale's weighing pan facilitating a constant mass reading to be observed. There are 3 sliding doors (right, left & top) allowing you easy access to the weighing pan. If you prefer the scale without a draftshield then be sure to see the EPB-1002L.
The EPB602 precision scale can be operate on either AC Adapter which is included or 6 AA batteries that are not included. This is another nice design since other competitor brands like the AND Weighing EK-610i don't operate on standard off the shelf AA alkaline batteries that are available also everywhere. Instead A&D designed their EK610i digital scale to use their special proprietary design rechargeable battery pack that cost a fortune. Other manufacturers use a sealed lead acid battery with the battery terminals hard soldered. So when the lead acid battery loses its ability to hold a charge if you don't have a soldering iron and know how to solder then your scale it inoperable. All these issues are eliminated with the EPB602 since it uses off the shelf regular AA batteries. If you are always near a power receptacle just run the digital scale on the AC Adapter.
Calibration is easy with the EPB602 but it does require you to purchase one of the optional 500 gram , 300 gram or 200 gram calibration weight listed scrolling down the web page in the OPTIONS section. You do have the ability to configure the digital scale to use any weight up to the weighing capacity of the scale, but we recommend a minimum of 50% of the balance's weighing capacity.
The EPB602 is truly a value oriented product designed for the school science classroom, hobbyist, or light industrial weighing application. Compare the features the EPB602 offers and the cost to other similar digital scales like the Ohaus SP602, Adam HCB602H, A&D EK610i, Mettler Toledo JL602 and numerous other brands and we think you'll agree if you are on a tight budget the EPB602 is the choice.
If the EPB-602 isn't exactly what you need for your weighing applications then be sure to see the additional models in the EPB Series HERE.
We made a special purchase on the AND EK610J which is Legal for Trade while the EPB-602D is NOT Legal for Trade. Our huge purchase of the A&D EK610J allows us to sell the EK-610J at a HUGE DISCOUNT while supplies last. So take a look at the A&D Weighing EK610J before you make your final selection.
This affordable digital scale incorporates a strain gauge loadcell which allow the price to be so low compared the electromagnetic force restoration like the A&D FX-1200i or Sartorius Entris2202-1S. Large 4.7" x 5.3" weighing platform with bright backlit display makes viewing easy in any lighting. You can program the backlit to always be ON, always OFF, or when a weight is applied to the weighing platform the backlit automatically turns ON. The EPB-602D comes with 3 door glass draftshield that is permanently fixed and can not be removed. If you want to buy 0.01 gram scale without a draftshield be sure to see the EPB-1002L.

The video above highlights the general features of the EBP203 milligram scale. Many of the features are similar to the EPB-602D & EPB-1002D except the EPB-602D has a larger 4.7" x 5.3" rectangular platform and only the EPB milligram scales come with the cal weight while calibration masses are optional with the EPB-62D. Learn the steps to calibrate the scale. We'll show you how to can change the weigh mode from grams to pennyweight and how the scale will power up in the last weigh mode used. The EPB-602D uses the same housing and draftshield so you can gain more insight watching this video.
Be sure to review this youtube video for a better understanding the performance you get from strain gauge digital scale verses magnetic force restoration (MFR) balance. If you are weighing static objects a strain gauge loadcell might work good enough for your weighing task, but if you are weight loss or gain over time you really need to find money money and buy a magnetic force restoration precision balance. The EPB-602D isn't the only strain gauge scale on the market that offers readability to 0.01 gram and weighing capacity over 600 grams. Other models included Adam HCB602H, My Weigh i601, Sartorius Quintix 602-1S, and there are more from other manufacturers. If you want better performance then we recommend you purchase a balance that uses electromagnetic force restoration weigh sensor like the A&D FX-1200i or Sartorius Entris2202-1S, but this will cost a lot more $$.
