VW-320-150 Portable Platform Scale weighs in either pounds (330 lbs x 0.1 lbs)
or kilograms (150 kg x 0.05 kg), operates on batteries or AC Adapter, standard
RS-232 interface, detachable 3 foot spiral cable that lets you move the indicator
up to 4 feet away from the weighing platform, table / wall mount bracket, 12.6"
x 12.4" weighing platform.
There are so many similar portable platform scales on the market it can be very
frustrating and confusing in selecting the best scale for your money. Yes,
read below and you'll know the difference why there are similar looking products
(Pelouze, Royal, etc) and some costing half as much.
The base on the VW320 Series uses 4 full bridge strain gauge industrial grade
aluminum load cells. There are 4 resistive strain gauges per cell or total
of 16 gauges for the VW-320-60 bench scale. Other competitive products may
be using a single gauge with two inverted V lever system electro-mechanical
base. Thirty years ago, the single gauge, glued on a metal bar (not
2024T4 aluminum) with weight transferred from two V-shape levers was the standard
design in bathroom personal scales. The base was mainly painted steel that
will easily rust and the two V-shape levers can easily bent or the knife on the
lever edge may bent or bunt over short time. This design is equivalent to
the Yugo or Pinto in cars.
To save costs and to provide the 4 full load cell marketing image, many manufacturers
started using "4 load cells" bases. These 4 load cells are either
single or double gauge 750 ohm or 1000 ohm gauges glued on a plated steel bar.
Again, these are the standard design for bathroom scales not industrial scales.
Accuracy class is typically 0.1% or less and not temperature compensated.
To save costs, manufacturers started using carbon steel as sensors instead of
high quality aluminum that has 100 times better spring characteristics than carbon
steel. Carbon steel is not a good material for weighing sensors, and in
almost all cases fail cycle life tests of 10,000 times on full load. Product
expectations from consumers buying a bathroom scale is very different from buying
an industrial platform scales. These bases have only 4 to 8 gauges, VMC
uses 16 on the VW320 platform scales.
Next, you are looking at the 330 lb / 150 kg base with 4 x 80 kg or total of 320
kg or 700 lb of sensor capacity. This is more then twice the rated capacity
of the scale, ensuring that the shock loadings or corner loadings will not easily
damage your scale base.
VMC scale bases are not made from one, not two but three deep drawn full stainless
steel plates. The bottom plate ensures the scale will not rust and there
are no paints to chip off. The center stainless steel plate is designed
to give full support on the load cell sensor mountings. The top stainless
steel plate provides even weight transfers to the center plate, and also a clean
highly polished surface that can be easily cleaned.
Check out the internal and close up photos below. There
are no moving parts, which means that there are less chances of damages and no
wear and tear on the scale base. Compare this to the flexure double inverted
V beam bases and the other 4 load cell bathroom scale bases, the difference is
clear.
This portable bench scale comes standard with AC adapter. You can also use
the scale with 6 AA batteries. Every unit comes standard with RS232C output
for printer or computer interface. Weight display is large and easily readable
and adjustable angle height bracket is also included as standard.
Common dry area applications are small animal weighing, parcels and boxes, automotive
parts, dry cleaners, dried fruits, tools, tiles, wood products and building materials.
