The hinge flip cover resembles a flip cellular phone that protects the weigh platform and display when the scale is not in use.  Slip the scale in your front pants pocket without worrying about damaging the scale because for an excessive load when the scale is not in use.  Most people don't understand that regardless of whether the scale is ON or OFF, an excessive load on the weighing platform will damage the weigh cell (called a strain gauge) and typically will not be covered under the manufacturer's warranty.  Toyo's engineers understand most people don't know this so they designed the scale with a cover that minimizes this potential hazard when the scale is not in use with their flip cover design.  Added to this is Toyo's "keep it simply design philosophy" with the hinge cover that simply pivots and has no springs or latches to ever break.

Toyo 125 is so small the platform is very tiny measuring only 1 1/2" x 2 3/8" (L x W).  Shown above is a nickel on the platform and like always the Toyo weighs it perfect.
