The
Palmscale also comes with a clear plastic cradle shaped weighing tray 4
5/8" x 2.75" to increase the weigh area. The clear
tray's base is molded to fit precisely on the existing stainless platform.
Designing the plastic tray to be removable makes it perfect for jewelers
to weigh their small gold filings. Simply, turn "ON" the
Palmscale, place the expanded clear tray onto the stainless steel platform,
press the "TARE" button to zero out the clear plastic tray and
place your precious metals on the tray to determine the exact weight of
your scrap gold. Removing the tray with the filings to dump into a
zip-lock baggy. The Palmscale uses a 2000
count Strain Gauge Transducer so you can tare the plastic tray and still
weigh up to 500 grams capacity.
If
you don't use the clear removable tray and typical of other pocket scales
on the market, you'll need to scrap/brush off the gold findings from the
platform and their is always a chance of dropping some of your precious
metal. Survey forms that were used to create the Palmscale said that Jewelers had problems in scraping gold filings off of the tray because
when they did so the plastic would often scrape. This is why the
Palmscale was outfitted with a stainless steel platform and the reason for
the handy removable plastic tray. This way a jeweler can simply wipe
the filings off of the tray or platform without any scraping of the actual
scale platform.
The Palmscale comes with 2 lithium batteries installed in the scale that
should last 3 to 5 years depending on use. These lithium batteries
are model CR2032 3 volts and replacements can be purchased at most major
department stores like Walmart and Kmart.
