Ohaus EP6102 lab balance has been discontinued and no longer in production. The replacement for the Ohaus EP6102 is the Ohaus Pro EX6202HERE. The information below is for reference only for those people that already own the Ohaus EP6102 digital scale or looking to replace a precision laboratory balance.
Ohaus Explorer EP6102 precision balance (6100g x 0.01g) can be purchased 3 ways - the standard Explorer EP6102 which has no internal calibration and is NOT Legal for Trade; the EP6102N which IS Legal for Trade with no internal calibration (check the box in the option section for Legal for Trade. The prefix "N" designate Legal for Trade); the EP6102CN which is the EP6102 with motorized internal calibration and IS Legal for Trade (check the box in the option section for Internal Calibration. The prefix "CN" designate Internal Calibration & Legal for Trade).
The EP6102CN is NTEP Approved (a.k.a. Legal for Trade) precision balance and we highly recommend you click the Certificate of Conformance hyperlink below in the balance specification table to fully understand the Ohaus EP6102CN limitations. The Ohaus EP6102CN weighing specs are 6100g weighing capacity and increments in 0.01 gram increments, but in the NTEP / Legal for Trade mode the increment is only in 0.1 gram graduations.
One design issue you should be aware of with the Explorer and Voyager Series outfitted with internal calibration when the balance is used in the non-NTEP mode is the inability to disable the use of internal calibration. The Ohaus line is the only balance we know of that does not allow you to disable the internal calibration. Where this becomes an issue is most calibration A2LA Certification Calibration Companies will NOT calibrate a balance unless the internal calibration can be disengaged. If your balance is going to require A2LA Certification the Sartorius CPA6202S lab balance may be a better choice.
Another design issue with the Ohaus Explorer 0.01g and 0.1 toploading balances is the windshield surrounds the platform implemented to deflect air currents from disturbing the weighing pan. Notice how the windshield wraps around the weighing pan. Sometimes this causes an obstruction in your weighing application where the item you are weighing "you think is on the platform" but actually the sample is touching the windshield, thus providing the incorrect weighing results. The Sartorius Quintix 5102-1S or Secura 5102-1S doesn't have this windshield design since Sartorius refined their balance so well it needs no windshield.
Is the Ohaus Explorer EP6102 is too expensive for your budget? Unsure what balance you need? Want to look at other models? If you need a precision balance with 0.01 gram resolution, take a look at the AND Weighing FZ-5000i (5200g x 0.01g). The FZ5000i has internal calibration which means there is no need to purchase expensive calibration weights. If you want to spend less money and prefer external calibration take a look at the FX-5000i.
In addition, the A&D FXi/FZi series comes with an RS-232C interface for bidirectional communication for weight measurements transferred to an optional printer or computer. Plus AND's WinCT data acquisition software data communication software works with either the FXi or FZi balance. Other manufacturer's charge you $100's more for either their balance communication software or a third party software, but with the A&D you can download WinCT balance software free. There is also an optional FXi-08 ethernet interface or FXi-02 USB interface available at an additional cost if you prefer not to use RS232 to transfer data from the balance to your computer.
We understand purchasing an precision balance is a major capital expense and if you have any questions give us a call and one of our weighing experts can discuss your weighing application and get you the most affordable balance for your weighing needs.

is an application mode commonly used when you need to identify the
individual weights of the container, the material and both together.
The container weight is the Tare weight, the material is called the
Net weight and the container and material together are called the
Gross weight. The Net weight is displayed on the readout.

/ Animal Weighing:
Dynamic weighing allows the user to weigh unstable matter that may
be moving. This mode can be set to manual, semi-automatic, or automatic;
the displayed data includes filtered weight and unfiltered weight.
Displayed data also includes filter level, capacity bar graph and
operation mode (manual, semi or auto).
Enhanced parts counting features include auto sample optimization,
user definable sample size and manual entry using scroll keys.
The "Parts Counting Check" feature allows for quickly checking
a sample of pieces against a preset criteria, with results displayed
as the number of pieces. The "Parts Counting Fill"
feature allows for quickly checking a sample of pieces against an
established criteria, with results displayed as a percentage of the
Filling permits the user to preset a target reference weight, then
add material to the balance to meet the target weight. The display
shows the preset target weight and the percentage of the target by
monitoring the differential data, the fill bar is split in two sections
for fast filling up to 90%, then slower accurate fill to reach target
is used when items need to be checked against a preset target, after
the target weight is set, and over/under parameters are established.
Checkweighing is measured as a factor of over the target, under the
target, or accept. The display automatically shows the difference
in percent and weight.
