Ohaus Explorer EP613 milligram balance can be purchased 3 ways - the standard
Explorer EP613 which has no internal calibration and is NOT Legal for Trade;
the EP613N which IS Legal for Trade with no internal
calibration (check the box in the option section for Legal for Trade and it cost
an additional $100. The prefix "N" designate Legal for Trade);
the EP613CN which is the EP613 with motorized internal
calibration and IS Legal for Trade (check the box in the option section for Internal
Calibration and it cost an additional $200). The prefix "CN" designate
Internal Calibration & Legal for Trade).
Ohaus Explorer EP613 (610g x 0.001g) features an integrated draft shield enclosure.
The enclosure is required due to the extreme sensitivity. Merely waving
your hand over the weighing platform with result in air turbulence getting under
the weighing pans and causes erratic readings.
In some applications when the balance is placed in a glove box or you are weighing
objects larger than the door opening of the draftshield you can run into problems.
An example might be weighing an 8-inch silicon wafer to determine a coating applied
- you just can't get the wafer in the fixed draft shield. In this situation
an analytical balance with the glass draftshield removed would be operated in
a larger enclosure, again to minimize air turbulence.
If you foresee needing to operate the milligram balance without the glass enclosure
we recommend you review the Sartorius
GC2502 milligram balance since this balance offer a removable glass draftshield.
Another benefit with a removable glass draftshield is easy of cleaning the balance.
Additional the Sartorius
GC2502 milligram balance is 500g x 1mg, features an all glass draftshield
design for optimal illumination while the Ohaus Explorer has 3 sides of glass,
and best of all the Sartorius GC2502 is priced less than the Ohaus EP613 milligram
balance.
One design issue you should be aware of with the Explorer and Voyager Series outfitted
with internal calibration when the balance is used in the non-NTEP mode is
the inability to disable the use of internal calibration. The Ohaus line is the
only balance we know of that does not allow you to disable the internal calibration.
Where this becomes an issue is most calibration A2LA Certification Calibration
Companies will NOT calibrate a balance unless the internal calibration can be
disengaged.
If you need a NTEP
Approved (a.k.a. Legal
for Trade) precision balance and the Ohaus EP613CN is too expensive then you
can buy the A&D
GF-300N which is also "Legal for Trade" around $1000.

Ohaus Explorer Pro Balances are available in both analytical and precision configurations,
in a variety of capacities. The Explorer Pro line of precision balances
offers capacities ranging from 210 x 0.001 grams to 32,000
x 0.1 grams. The analytical balances line offers
capacities of 62, 110 and 210 grams and you can review them all at the bottom
of this web page.
Before you decide to purchase an Ohaus EP613 milligram balance we suggest you review the Sartorius ED623S.
Both milligram balances weigh just over 600 grams in 0.001 gram increments, but you can save hundreds of dollars when you choose an ED623S from Sartorius.
When you purchase
an ED623S with external calibration, you are given the option to buy a data printer or WinWedge data transfer software at a deep discount price.
Sartorius data printers regularly sell for $860, but if you purchase an ED623S, we will cut the price of the YDP03-OCE down to $399! This exclusive offer from Precision
Weighing Balances will only be honored when you make your selection at the time of purchase. Sartorius ED623S milligram balances are in stock and ready for immediate delivery.

Percent
Weighing:
allows you to place a reference load on the pan, and check other samples
as a percent of the reference load. Each new sample will be
a "percentage" of the original reference, the display shows
the variance in – or + percent of the reference.
Gross/Net/Tare:
is an application mode commonly used when you need to identify the
individual weights of the container, the material and both together.
The container weight is the Tare weight, the material is called the
Net weight and the container and material together are called the
Gross weight. The Net weight is displayed on the readout.
Weighing:
Basic weighing with primary and secondary weighing units, time, date
and capacity bar.
Dynamic
/ Animal Weighing:
Dynamic weighing allows the user to weigh unstable matter that may
be moving. This mode can be set to manual, semi-automatic, or automatic;
the displayed data includes filtered weight and unfiltered weight.
Displayed data also includes filter level, capacity bar graph and
operation mode (manual, semi or auto).
Parts
Counting:
Enhanced parts counting features include auto sample optimization,
user definable sample size and manual entry using scroll keys.
The "Parts Counting Check" feature allows for quickly checking
a sample of pieces against a preset criteria, with results displayed
as the number of pieces. The "Parts Counting Fill"
feature allows for quickly checking a sample of pieces against an
established criteria, with results displayed as a percentage of the
preset target.
Filling:
Filling permits the user to preset a target reference weight, then
add material to the balance to meet the target weight. The display
shows the preset target weight and the percentage of the target by
monitoring the differential data, the fill bar is split in two sections
for fast filling up to 90%, then slower accurate fill to reach target
(100%) weight.
Checkweighing:
is used when items need to be checked against a preset target, after
the target weight is set, and over/under parameters are established.
Checkweighing is measured as a factor of over the target, under the
target, or accept. The display automatically shows the difference
in percent and weight.
Optional

An
accessory density determination kit is designed to be used with Ohaus Explorer
Pro balances. A built-in reference density table for water at temperatures
between 10°C and 30°C is included in the balance software.
When making density measurements, the material should weigh at least 10.0
mg on an analytical balance and 100 mg on a precision balance.
