The Ohaus SP601 is a great digital scale, but we do get calls from people saying they want to buy an American made digital scale (yep, the Ohaus SP601 is made in China) and we do have one available that is made in the USA - the Acculab VIC-711. Acculab is part of the Sartorius Group and the Acculab VIC-711 is assembled at the Sartorius North America Inc., Mechatronics Division in Arvada, Colorado. The Acculab VIC-711 (710g x 0.1g) offers similar specifications as the Ohaus SP601 and we have the Acculab VIC-711 priced for less money than the Ohaus SP601.
If price is absolutely the #1 issue and you are in search of the lowest cost 0.1g digital scales then we have a couple of other digital scales that are made in China. These gram scales do not have all the bells and whistles included in an
Ohaus SP601, but the price is much less. For our customers seeking a simplified digital portable balance, with less features we recommend My Weigh brand digital scales.
My Weigh's i1200 balance offers 1200g x 0.1g and the ECS1200 digital gram scale at a much more affordable price.
If you are a jeweler or pawn shop and were told by a Weights & Measures Inspector that you need a Legal for Trade Class II Scale the Ohaus SP601 is NOT Legal for Trade and we recommend you purchase the A&D EK-1200i or Mettler Toledo JL602-G/LA00 digital scale.
