Ohaus Explorer EP22001 high capacity balance (22000g x 0.1g) can be purchased
2 ways - the standard Explorer EP22001 which has no internal calibration;
the EP22001C which is the EP22001 with motorized internal
calibration (check the box in the option section for Internal Calibration. The prefix "N" designate Internal
Calibration. None of the high capacity Ohaus Explorer balances
12kg and higher in capacity are Legal for Trade/NTEP Approved.
Explorer Pro High Capacity EP22001 precision toploader balance features large
11" x 14" platform. The Ohaus Explorer EP12001 High Capacity Balance has
been upgraded with check and differential weighing, statistical functions, formulation,
and filling.
Precision Weighing Balances supplies balances and scales to many of the materials
testing labs for Department of Transportation offices throughout the USA.
Whether you're performing testing for DOT asphalt, soil sampling and Super-Pave
applications to meet some ASTM or AASHTO test requirement you can call Precision
Weighing Balances' expert staff in help in selecting the best balance for your
weighing needs.
Although the EP22001 is targeted for this segment market along with applications
in concrete, asphalt production, agriculture and quality control most of our customers
purchase the Sartorius
CPA12001S
over the Ohaus EP12001 scale.
The reason typically for not selecting the Ohaus EP22001 is it only offers 2 year
warranty, has a smaller 11" x 14" weighing platform and the real downfall
with the EP22001 is the linearity is only ± 0.4 gram. Linearity
is the accuracy of the balance and you review the definition
for linearity here. The Sartorius
CPA12001 has linearity specifications to ± 0.2 gram. Some
people might say 0.2g verses 0.4g is twice the balance.
The Sartorius
CPA16001S (16000g x 0.1g) offers a 3 year warranty, larger 11.7" x 15.6"
weighing pan, IP-53
Rating so it is dust protected and also against "sprayed water",
LCD display with adjustable backlight to see it in poorly lighted areas like mobile
soil testing labs trailers on constructions sites and the linearity is ±
0.2 gram.
Many of the DOT Materials Managers are buying the Sartorius
line since they don't want the internal calibration. The issue is the
internal calibration typically does not offer the calibration
adjustment needed to maintain the balance within the specification like an
external calibration provides. Again give us a call and one of our balance
experts will help for understand all the technical aspects so you can make the
correct purchase.
Ohaus Explorer Pro Balances are available in both analytical and precision configurations,
in a variety of capacities. The Explorer Pro line of precision balances
offers capacities ranging from 210 x 0.001 grams to 32,000
x 0.1 grams. The analytical balances line offers
capacities of 62, 110 and 210 grams and you can review them all at the bottom
of this web page.
Another similar model you should review is the Mettler-Toledo SB32001-GA precision balance. Mettler Toledo SB32001-GA offers 32,100 grams weighing capacity with readability to 0.1g, large 13.7" x 9.1" weighing platform and NTEP Approved.

The
spirit bubble indicator is located on the front of the balance so you
can always verify your lab balance is level. Balances must
always be level to correctly transfer the force applied to the weighing
balance parallel to the weigh cell. If the balance is off-centered (not
level) this generates a counter force to the suspension guides of the
weigh cell resulting in inaccurate or distorted weighing results.
Application
Modes
Percent
Weighing:
allows you to place a reference load on the pan, and check other samples
as a percent of the reference load. Each new sample will be
a "percentage" of the original reference, the display shows
the variance in – or + percent of the reference.
Weighing:
Basic weighing with primary and secondary weighing units, time, date
and capacity bar.
Dynamic
/ Animal Weighing:
allows the user to weigh unstable matter that may
be moving. This mode can be set to manual, semi-automatic, or automatic;
the displayed data includes filtered weight and unfiltered weight.
Displayed data also includes filter level, capacity bar graph and
operation mode (manual, semi or auto).
Parts
Counting:
Enhanced parts counting features include auto sample optimization,
user definable sample size and manual entry using scroll keys.
The "Parts Counting Check" feature allows for quickly checking
a sample of pieces against a preset criteria, with results displayed
as the number of pieces. The "Parts Counting Fill"
feature allows for quickly checking a sample of pieces against an
established criteria, with results displayed as a percentage of the
preset target.
Filling:
permits the user to preset a target reference weight, then
add material to the balance to meet the target weight. The display
shows the preset target weight and the percentage of the target by
monitoring the differential data, the fill bar is split in two sections
for fast filling up to 90%, then slower accurate fill to reach target
(100%) weight.
Checkweighing:
is used when items need to be checked against a preset target, after
the target weight is set, and over/under parameters are established.
Checkweighing is measured as a factor of over the target, under the
target, or accept. The display automatically shows the difference
in percent and weight.
Differential Weighing
stores tare and weight values so a sample can be dried and the difference calculated at a later time. Up to
5 batches with up to 80 samples per batch can be stored. Samples can be added to the applications library. Batch and
individual samples can be accommodated.
Formulation
Explorer Pro Balance can store between 200 minimum and 500 formulations limited only by the memory capacity of the
resident library. Each formulation can be named and have up to 10 components specified and identified by name. Once the
formulations are stored in the balance library, they may be recalled and used at any time. Each component of a given formulation
can be specified as to its weight or percentage. The balance will display each element of a formulation on a dual bar graph
as a percentage and also displays the desired weight. Thus, each product may be placed on the pan until 100% is indicated.
Names are limited to 10 characters.
Quick Check Weighing
permits you to place a reference sample or a sample weight on the balance pan which is used as a
reference weight to measure against similar samples. A single bar display indicates up to 100% of the capacity of the balance,
the difference in weight between the original sample and succeeding samples is displayed. The difference in percentage is also
shown along with the reference weight. The large numeric display indicates the weight of the subject.
Statistics
is used when it is desired to compare a number of samples and examine the relative deviation of the samples along
with other statistical data such as mean, sum, maximum and minimum and difference. A minimum of three samples is required
in this program. Statistics contains a number of pop-up menus which include standard deviation, mean, sum, maximum,
minimum, difference, relative deviation, auto sample detect and sample size. All of these can be set ON or OFF except sample
size which can be set for a particular number. When a printer or computer is connected to the balance, all statistical information
can be observed and printed.
Optional

Leading Quality and Support
All Ohaus Explorer® Pro balances are manufactured under an ISO 9001:2000
Registered Quality Management System. Our rugged construction and stringent
quality control have been hallmarks of all Ohaus products for nearly a
century.
Density
Four
methods of density determinations can be made with the Voyager Pro balance.

material (impregnated with oil).
An
accessory density determination kit is designed to be used with Ohaus Explorer
Pro balances. A built-in reference density table for water at temperatures
between 10°C and 30°C is included in the balance software.
When making density measurements, the material should weigh at least 10.0
mg on an analytical balance and 100 mg on a precision balance.
