Not just any weighing pan is sufficient to hold your gems during weighing applications due to the tare feature on your balance.  Even though you may tare your gem balance and see 0 grams on the digital display before dropping your gems in the weighing dish, your balance must still accomodate the weight of the pan, decreasing your gem balance's maximum weighing capacity.  Sartorius YWP06G gem dishes only weigh 11.2 grams to counter this problem.
