We made a special purchase on the EK6100J that has a maximum weighing capacity of 6000 grams and increments in 0.1 gram graduations with a 5.2 x 6.7 inch rectangular weighing platform. Some people might ask how do we sell so cheap. We buy in huge volume and as an Authorized A&D Weighing Distributor the manufacturer comes to us to move their excessive inventory. We price the scale at ridiculous low prices to move the scales since it is only a matter of time before our phone rings asking us to buy more overstock.
What is the difference between the EK-6100J verses the EK-6100i? Notice the last character in the model name is "J" verses "i"). The EK-6100i (non-NTEP) while the EK6100J is Legal For Trade. The EK-6100J DOES NOT have a functional RS-232 serial interface so you can not connect the scale to a computer or printer. For some reason when A&D designed the EK-6100J they disabled the serial interface. THERE IS NO WAY TO TRANSMIT THE DATA FROM THE SCALE TO THE COMPUTER SINCE THE RS232 INTERFACE IS NOT ACTIVE. If you are not going to be connecting the scale to a printer or computer then you don't need the serial interface and you can save a barrel of money.
Legal-for-Trade balances typically cost a lot more than "Not Legal for Trade" since extensive testing is required to achieve a Certificate of Conformance 06-054.
To attain the covenant status of legal for trade the EK-6100j is tested with several increasing/decreasing load and shift tests and these test occur over a temperature range of 41°F to 95°F. A load of approximately one-half capacity is applied to the EJ6100J over 100,000 times and must weigh with the testing tolerances.
EK6100J NTEP approved Class II Legal For Trade scale's "d"(value of scale division) is 0.1 grams and the "e" (value of verification scale division) is 1 grams. The balance meets the requirements as a Class II weighing device defined in Handbook 44. All this information can be verified by downloading the CofC # 06-054 so you can printout this certificate to check with your Weights & Measurements Inspector if they will allow you to use the EK6100J for your particular weighing application.
Many people purchasing the EK-6100J might not need legal for trade status and want to remind people this is a great scale designed for manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, classroom applications. The fast display update rate is ideal for mixing of flavors and spices as well as chemical ingredients. Companies packaging products by weight can use the EK6100J for quality control and compliance to verify their package contains the correct weight denoted on the packaging.
The EK6100J digital scale can be used for material testing to adhere to state specific guidelines and ASTM specifications. Whether you are performing sieve analysis of fine and coarse aggregates to total moisture content of aggregate by drying. There is also an optional underhook for specific gravity determination below balance weighing used for weighing concrete cores. Always refer to the particular AASHTO test method and verify your sample size will not exceed 6000 gram capacity and requires resolution to 0.1 grams then EJ6100J meets the requirements.
The compact size and small footprint saves valuable laboratory bench space and is something very few scale companies offer.
When the EK-6100J digital balance is first installed it should be calibrated to ensure accurate weighing results. We offer a full line of optional calibration weights including the recommended 5000g calibration weight for the EK6100J. Every location in the world is positioned differently to "magnetic north" and therefore the acceleration of gravity is slightly different.
Additional applications for the EK6100J would be for weighing large quantities of gold and silver - 50 ounces and need an affordable priced legal for trade scale. If you watch the popular Discovery Channel "Gold Rush" in Season 6 you'll see Todd Hoffman, Parker Schnabel and Tony Beets team using an A&D EK Series digital scale to weigh their gold after many clean outs on the show.
Finally, the best selling point is AND Weighing fabulous product support. A&D Weighing has a dedicated product support line by calling 1-800-726-4940 6:00 am to 5:00 pm PST. Finally the A&D is simply to use and configure. The product manual is written for the average person to configure their scale verses having to spend $100's calling for scale company help you figure out how to use the weighing device.
Precision Weighing Balances has been an Authorized AND Weighing Distributor for over a decade. See the full line of A&D EK Scales at the bottom of this web page or click here.

EK-6100J CLASS II NTEP Legal for Trade Digital Scale
Weighing equipment - The world runs on weights & measures. Almost everything you see & touch is weighed.
In this video we offer an overview of the A&D Weighing EK6100J and EK610J. The EK6100J (6000g x 0.1g) is "NTEP Approved 6000d Class II Scale". The EK-6100J DOES NOT have a functional RS-232 serial interface so you can not connect the EK-6100J scale to a computer or A&D printer.
The EK6100-j comes standard with an 120V AC Adapter. So you'll need to plug the scale into a power receptacle. What happens if you need to operate the scale and there is no electrical outlet available?
Well there is an answer to your dilemma, but it requires you to purchase the optional EKW-09i rechargeable battery pack. When fully charged you'll have approximately 9 hours of scale operating time. Watch the video above to see how to install the optional EKW-09i rechargeable battery pack. Installation is the same for the EK6100j.
Now you can add a layer of protection against accidental spills when mixing inks, dyes or other weighing application when a person's fingers might not always be clean. The optional protective cover (part number is AX:3005824-5S available in the optional accessories section) is chemically-resistant.
This form fitted clear transparent plastic cover in-use cover is easy to install on the EK6100-J and other EK/EW models with the 5.2 x 6.7 inches rectangular platform requires you to remove the weighing pan support to install the clear plastic cover and this video shows how this is done.
What is a weighing underhook and how is the underhook installed and used with a digital electronic scale? We hope the video above will answer all those questions.
The optional EKW-07i weigh below weighing underhook only works with EK6100J, EK6000i, EK6100i, EK4100i, EK12Ki and EW-12Ki models. The underhook is installed on the bottom of the scale by removing the beneath weighing port cover and screwing the optional EKW-07i underhook assembly into the threaded mounting hole.
By attaching the underhook to the bottom of the balance, large objects that would be difficult to load on the weighing pan can be weighed. Also, since electronic scales are affected by temperate and magnetism sample being weighed that are hot, cold and magnetic items should always be weighed using the below weighing underhook.
In addition, the density (specific gravity) of objects may be calculate by weighing a sample in air and then in weighing the same sample submerge in water or other liquids.
The optional EJ-12 hard shell transport case features die cut foam specifically designed for holding AND Weighing EK6100j digital scale. This carrying scale is convenient for transporting the digital scale or just storing your scale when not in use to lessen the chance of damage to the precision measurement weigh sensor. Whether the scale is turned On or Off if one applies an excessive load or shocks the platform you can permanently damage any scale. The optional EJ-12 case is a low cost scale insurance policy to protect your scale.
