Mettler Toledo JL6001-G/A03 balances are legal for trade, enabling use for NTEP approved weighing applications.

The JL6001-G/A-03 gem balance features 6100 grams maximum weighing capacity and increments in 0.1 gram increments.  This jewelry scale is legal for trade and offers a compact, plastic construction.  Powered by either an AC adapter or 4 AA batteries, this gem balance offers complete portability.

JL Series balances feature external calibration which requires the purchase of an optional 5000 gram calibration mass.  You may also connect the JL6001 balance to a computer via RS232 interface which is included.  RS232 cables and software are sold separately.  Mettler Toledo JL6001 gem balance weighs units in grams only.  For additional weighing modes, check out one of our comparable models.

As the price of precious metals like gold, platinum, silver and rhodium keep raising customer complaints to weights and measures officials are on the increase.  The general public is calling complaining they are being short changed buying and selling by weight.  These complaints typically result in a Weights & Measures officials doing an inspection to verify the scale in use is Legal for Trade. Most pawnshops, jewelers and metals buyers know they need a Legal for Trade Type Approved Scale, but these inspectors are now requiring the weighing scale to have two displays to meet the requirements of "direct sales". In weights and measures terminology a direct sale is one where both the buyer and seller are present.  NIST Handbook 44 requires the customer to be able to witness the transaction and transaction information from a reasonable position in a direct sale application. Weight indications shall be shown on the customer’s side of the scale when used for direct sales to retail customers.  The way to achieve these requirements is to purchase the optional display shown above (purchase here).  The Mettler Toledo 72213564 remote display features a backlight.  The display plugs into the RS-232 port on the back of the balance and the cable length is 6 feet.  All Mettler JB and JL balances are equipped with RS-232 interface with the exception of the JL602-G/LA00 and JL6001-G/LA00.
